In his work no restrictions are found, characteristic for the new current contemporary art from China.
In the Chinese tradition flowers are the symbol of life. Life origins, comes to bloom and then fade away gradually. This is also the way poets express their thoughts the past thousands of years. Through their writing concerning flowers they express their ideas and feelings, thus the artist uses the language of flowers to picture his feelings and emotions.
So the flowers of Zhang Jianqiang may not be flowers. They could be rotten lumps of flesh, scars or even blood stains, observed through bloodshot eyes. They could just be the sound of the heart, caused by grieves over the years, flowers that make us shed tears, hating to part, all that breaks our heart.
